About Warrick

Warrick was 19 at the time of his accident and had recently moved from Albany to perth to further his football career with Claremont Football Club. He was an integral part of the club and had the potential to be a future AFL Draft Pick. He remains a well-loved member of the Claremont Football Club and North Albany Football Club and community who continue to support him and his family. Some 9 years after his accident Warrick remains such an inspiration to his many friends and family who go to extrodarinary lengths to support him and raise funds for his rehabilitation and care.

As a direct result of Warrick’s unsuccessful court case for compensation, the State Government has implemented ‘no-fault insurance. This decision ensures that any West Australian who is injured in an accident where no-one is at fault will now have access to the Catastrophic Injuries Support Scheme which covers the injured person’s care and treatment.

Unfortunately, Warrick cannot access this scheme as the law was not made retrospective. Warrick’s funding has recently moved to the NDIS, which covers the essentials of his care, however, the family are still reliant on the Foundation to cover the remaining costs.

As a result of Warrick being in his own home surrounded by family and some amazing carers, he is exceptionally fit and healthy and although his progress is slow we remain hopeful that his efforts to communicate will become more consistent over time as his brain continues to heal.

Warrick’s Treatments

Warrick requires 24-hour care most of which is provided by his Mum Trish with help being provided by trained carers during the day and night. He attends regular physio sessions, has massages and alternative treatments such as herbal concoctions; acupuncture; Botox and medicinal cannabis. All of these treatments are expensive which is why we remain so very grateful for every bit of support the Foundation receives so we can ensure Warrick continues to receive the best of care.

All of these treatments are aimed at keeping Warrick in the best of health and keep him strong and help him get through his vigorous Physio sessions. He enjoys floating around the Hydrotherapy spa pool that the Foundation helped the family install in 2019.

The Proudloves are truly grateful for everything that people have done for them and continue to do for their much-loved son and brother.

How your support helps

Over the years, the Proudies foundation has funded major responsibilities such as house modifications to enable us to take care of Warrick at home respectfully, and the acquisition of a specially modified van for Warrick’s transport. Warrick’s ever increasing and on-going equipment, therapy and medical expenses are also funded by the foundation as his Disability pension wouldn’t cover them.

“The Proudloves take nothing for granted, are inspirational people and we hope that like the members of the Committee and the Proudies community, you too will be inspired by their story and be able to assist either through sponsorship, donations or nominating for the Committee.”
